Anti-Mahachi hunger strike called off

HARARE - Philosophy Nyapfumbi, a municipal activist, has temporarily suspended his hunger strike against Harare town clerk Tendai Mahachi.

Nyapfumbi, who had been living on a packet of popcorn and water, was persuaded by mayor Bernard Manyenyeni to suspend his action until Monday.

The Belvedere resident had instigated a hunger strike in protest of Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo’s decision to reinstate Mahachi.

Manyenyeni advised Nyapfumbi the issue of the forensic audit will be finalised by Monday and from there council will know of the way forward.

“With this assurance can I on behalf of Council request you to suspend your highly commended action until after the conclusion of the audit processes we were mandated to undertake”, Manyenyeni wrote to Nyapfumbi.

Nyapfumbi said: “After I am furnished with the results of the report and the conditions that they are working in, I will know whether to come back and continue or not,” Nyapfumbi said.

Thats why Zimbabwe is in this mess because we a re very selfish and can not do anything for the love of our nation like Mr Nyapfumbi. People in Harare should have joined in, but all we can do is behave as if we have a lot of money to pay and support the corrupt civic institutions and government. All we can do is try and show off as if we are rich by the type of car we drive and the type of phone we are using. All this is foolishness and arogance. Zimbabwe we need to stand up and show these corrupt people our displeasure without any political bias.

I was assaulted in front of a crowd when I complained about a group of people who were jumping a fuel queue at a service station along Samora Machel that year of crisis. The crowd which was groaning in the background against these queue jumpers did not help me as I got assaulted. Only my karate skills saved me. I have learnt that Zimbabweans are a coward lot, they are just good at grumbling in the background.
