Hubby ditches HIV+ wife

HARARE - A disgruntled woman yesterday told the court that her husband, who allegedly infected her with HIV, is now neglecting both herself and his children.

Rosemary Kaserera alleges that her husband, Farai Murowa has also violated a protection order she was issued last year and assaults her regularly.

Kaserera hauled Murowa before the Harare Civil Court seeking court protection from him.

She claims he is chasing her away from their matrimonial home.

She told magistrate Tafadzwa Muvhami that Murowa no longer buys food for them.

“He has breached the current protection order and beats me all the time. He has another case in court for infecting me with HIV. When I served him with the summons he assaulted me,” complained Kaserera.

“He has barred me from going to our farm where I used to get food for the family. My husband has since stopped buying food and does not take care of his children.”

Kaserera said she and the children were on a special diet because of her HIV status but Murowa was not fending for them.

Murowa did not dispute his wife’s allegations but asked for the matter to be postponed, saying his lawyer was out of the country.

Magistrate Muvhami postponed the matter to February 26, for continuation.

He advised Murowa to stop breaching the current protection order or risk being arrested for contempt of court.

Muvhami also advised Kaserera to approach the maintenance court on issues to do with child support.
