Corruption is not new

EDITOR — There is nothing new or shocking about the revelations of corruption characterising today’s reportage.

If anything, it’s just old wine in new wineskins.

If you look down memory lane, you will see that there have been spates of corruption cases involving high-profile government workers and several other bigwigs from leading corporations.

The country crumbled under the weight of corruption which has been silently and steadily chewing its way through our economy for years.

I refuse to believe that no one knew about all these activities.

In fact, let me make reference to Thomas Mapfumo’s song Corruption where he castigates the appalling levels of decay in the country as far back as 1988.

That is close to 26 years ago.

The only shocking thing, in my opinion, is not revelations of corruption in Zimbabwe but efforts to quell it by the police or anti-graft associations in the country.

corruption will never be eradicated as long as the big chefs are protected whilst a few lambs are sacrificed to appease public anger

It was indeed Dr Thomas Mapfumo ,the Lion of Zimbabwe who declared war on endemic CORRUPTION in Zim in 1988 by releasing the superhit ,Corruption. The Chimurenga Music King was the 1st Artiste to relentlessly, fearlessly, ferociously&steadfastly take the fight to the evil Zanu pf Human Hyenas lyrically in the Songs Todya Marara here?,Varombo kuvarombo,Chikonzero,Zimbabwe,Chinombururuka chinomhara& many more. The late King of Reggae ,Robert Nesta Marley who graced Uhuru in 1980 must be turning in his grave with anger with the greedy evil ,corrupt LOOTERS on the Zim Political scene masquerading as Revolutionaries. The Late TWOBOY must be turning in his grave with anger too since they came from Mocambique with the evil Zanuiods without even a teaspoon .Dr Thomas Mapfumo like Marley is a Prophet who prophesied Zim in his Song ,"Moto Uyo!".Long live&long reign Dr Thomas Mapfumo ,the Conquering Lion of Zimbabwe.Mhukahuru ,Murambatsvina,Chimurenga Music King/Guru!.

@zvichaperachete....mapfumo could see right through these guys even when the veneer they wore to mask their true selves was still new and effective...he had seen through them all and they paid him back by haunting him out of the country.....we miss him....the only fearless musician to come out of this country...the true revolutionary

its not new. we knew about it, but the cios especially protected those who were corrupt and they still do to this day. what excites anywhere is that God's judgement will be final, whether in this world or in the world to come. thats why i am a christian.

Even calling for sanctions against your own country so that the people suffer and you get into power is treasonous and corruption at its worst.

reason - 11 February 2014

It's not sanctions but greed that causes people to line their pockets with five and six figure salaries while the general public suffer!

mkhonto - 11 February 2014

Mapfumo is a legend

Ngodza - 11 February 2014

Corruption has totally grounded our economy . A practical approach is urgently needed to root it out .

"THY KINGDOM COME" That is how, in part, Christians ought to pray but this is how people are conversing daily in Marondera. Marondera residents are yearning for more of Mugabe's kingdom in general and his person in particular to visit the provincial town frequently after the kingdom's presence during the 21st February movement brought a new face to the town with key roads linked to the focal point of the event received face lift a few hours before the kingdom entered. This is at the ugly backdrop of an unchecked dilapidation of infrastructure since time immemorial in the town which reasons were attributed to lack of resources by those entrusted with the welfare of Marondara. Indeed it was resources lacking, as shown by the neat work done to usher Mugabe--- so neat was the work that a raft of stars would have been attracted if the work was done by a 1st grader. However, the resources which were in short supply, according to the view of this author, were neither material nor financial in character but wholly attitudinal. So my interpretation of the current talk of Marondera of wishing if Mugabe was able to visit the town weekly is not that the residents are already missing this elder barely a week after he was driven off but is to wish if those in authority could sustain the attitude they adopted at the eve of the 21st February movement. May be as a fellow resident, let me add few words to the prayer of our moment before i log off- Amen
