CAPS assess Malawi's deadliest striker

HARARE - CAPS United could this week complete the signing of two-time Malawian league Golden Boot winner Ishmael Thindwa from Epac FC in a bid to ease the Green Machine's scoring woes.

Thindwa has been on trials at the Harare club since last week, alongside fellow countryman and club-mate Tsanzo Dario, a central defender.

But it is Thindwa, a big centre forward who possesses close ball control and a powerful shot, who might clinch a deal as early as next week.

The bustling Thindwa also pose an aerial threat and is always looking for work.

Thindwa finished the season as Malawi's top goal-scorer in 2011 with 11 goals before reclaiming his crown last season with 15 goals for Epac.

The Lilongwe-based club, however, finished a lowly 11th on the final standings while Thindwa missed four games through injury.

CAPS United head coach Taurai Mangwiro yesterday said he was impressed by the duo but still needs “a bit of time” to assess them before making a final decision.

"They are still here for assessment and could be in Harare for another week so depending on the programme that we will be working on," Mangwiro told the Daily News.

"They have been doing fairly well at training and the chances of signing them are evenly balanced but I just have to take my time before I can come up with any decision."

Apart from the two, there is also a player from Zambian trying his luck with the former Cup Kings.
