BPA boss eyes third term

BULAWAYO - The Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) chairperson, Godfrey Kondo will be seeking re-election at the association’s elective Annual General Meeting at Raylton Sports Club today.

Kondo, who has been at the helm of pool in Bulawayo for the past two years, will battle it out with Kings Player, Denis Tirivanhu.

Tirivanhu promised to change the welfare of pool players if elected.

“Players should have good allowances and play at tournaments outside the country. They should depend on pool and not take it as part time,” Tirivanhu said.

Kondo, who has been presiding over the cash strapped league, is hopeful that more sponsors will come on board for the Bulawayo Pool League (BPL) which is fast gaining popularity.

“I have a vision and passion to drive the sport to professional levels, where players are rewarded for their efforts,” Kondo told the Daily News.

“I still need to mobilize more regional and national tournaments apart from the traditional Carling Black Label tournament,” he said.

During Kondo’s tenure, the BPA managed to establish a website, as well as play host to the Carling Black Label national finals for the first time.

Kondo is also mooting plans of establishing a dollar fund which will cater for players’ medical expenses and bereavement.

Meanwhile, other members seeking re-election are Secretary-general Rafael Mukucha, publicity secretary Donald Wadawu and fixtures secretary Prosper Nsingo.

Geshem Nash will be vying for the treasurer’s post.
