Tsvangirai postpones state-of-nation address

HARARE - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai has postponed to Thursday his alternative state-of-the-nation address that was set to be held in Harare yesterday.

At the time the address was arranged, there had not been a bereavement in President Robert Mugabe’s family.

Mugabe’s sister Bridgette  Zvenhamo, who died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Sunday, was buried in her Zvimba rural home yesterday.

“President Tsvangirai, who has already sent his condolences to the Mugabe family, believes that under the circumstances, it would be inappropriate to proceed with the event,” Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka said.

It was not immediately clear what was in Tsvangirai’s condolence dispatch to Mugabe.

“The state-of-the-nation address is meant to unpack the problems facing the country and proffer solutions on the way forward in light of the magnitude of the economic problems facing the people of Zimbabwe,” Tamborinyoka said.

Organisers said the state-of-the-nation address, scheduled for a local Harare, will be a public forum comprising members of the press, diplomats, civic society, industry representatives, students and the labour movement.

time for talking and cuddling up to these Zanu's is long gone Morgan. Unless and when you are prepared to go all out and "demonstrate against these guys" nothing will change. the country and the world is awaiting your leadership boss, it is almost like the world needs you in jail serving time or assassinated in order to justify the pressure on Bob. at the moment, momentum has been lost. if you cannot personally sacrifice like this, the revolution will die a natural death, as it is already on the death bed. all the great revolutionaries made personal sacrifices, Mandela, the Burma lady even Bob served 10 years +. you were behind bars for a weekend, look how much uproar went up worldwide. imagine if you had remained in there, you only needed to escalalate your actions and they would have thrown you back. we need you to commit treason bosso. say or do anything that will land you behind bars, and sure as the sun will set, it may take 1 month, or 1 year, or 27 years, but the combined local and international pressure riding on your personal sacrifice will remove these pariahs. if you are not prepared for this, move off pachigaro. sitting in a highlands mansion and addressing press conferences in 5 star hotels is not the standard image of a revolutionary, you are the first, and it will not work. state of the nation kudini, pinda pa road mdara, where is the march to state house? itai basa se basa, mumusvotese eriza magara pachigaro
