Tsvangirai to present alternative state-of-the-nation address

HARARE - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai will tomorrow present an alternative state-of-the-nation address to proffer solutions to deepening politico-socio-economic problems bedevilling the country.

The address, to be made from the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Harare, is expected to be attended by the business community, the media, students and civic society leaders, among other interested groups.

Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka told the Daily News that the event has been necessitated by the multi-layered crises confronting the country.

“The country is facing the crises of legitimacy arising from the stolen election, governance and leadership, as well as a crisis of expectations, emanating from unfulfilled Zanu PF promises,” Tamborinyoka said.

He said during the event, Tsvangirai will proffer possible solutions to the problems, including the protracted salary battle between government and civil servants.

“Zanu PF claimed an overwhelming victory in the previous elections, but what the ordinary Zimbabweans are being made to see now is under-whelming delivery,” Tamborinyoka said.

“The country is on its knees, yet the leadership of the country does not seem to have a clue on how to solve the challenges.

“Some even have the luxury to go on leave, as if all is well in the country,” he said, apparently referring to President Robert Mugabe who has just returned from his annual vacation and is expected back at work this month-end.

No qualms with the intent here as this is what MDC should be doing regularly. However, take note that with the announced burial of the late Bridgette Mugabe set for tomorrow, there might be no significant audience to MDC President Tsvangirai's address. Obviously most parastatal heads, "patriotic" private company heads and the diplomatic corps will all troop to Zvimba for the burial. Please MDC, put the address off for either Thursday or Friday where there is no distraction and I am sure then a more relevant audience will attend.

Greatest JOKE!!! In what capacity?? It amazes me we still have Zimbabweans shallow enough to think this man who can't even run his own affairs, can run a country like Zimbabwe and actually make decisions of our future!!!! smh As much as we need change and direction, this is the last person real Zimbabweans need. Anyone ane pfungwa dzakanyatsokwana anozviziva. Taneta nematakanana ataitirwa asi this "once respectable" man haana what it takes to rule. He would do very well ZCTU. That is the highest and best place for him.

Save kubatsira as who really, some people should just wake and smell the coffee, as for Mandela greatest African leader where, where did he do well, left the poor blacks where they were before he was pesident and was only a darling to the whites who still call him Tata today, remember his great birthday party he held in LONDON, spending millions of pounds when Soweto was and is still living poverty you can touch. Zanu is running the show, just participate as Zimbos than think your Save has solutions, he should just tell his masters to remove these sanctions.

NDABEZINHLE NKOMO - 20 January 2014

What sanctions? zanu there is a difference if you rape a woman and go around claiming to be the husband then you must be nuts. Forcing people to like you with a guy on their forehead...hamunyare?

When I read this headline, my response was "EXCUSE ME?!". I cannot agree more with 'Zimbo'. This just demonstrates the lawlessness in this country, which Tsvangi-son himself is advocating for. Who the hell does he think he is to deliver a state of the nation address?? Next thing he'll be setting up a parallel government with his own ministers and ambassadors vana Zwambila ava.. If one wants to lead, they should lead by example. His bedroom shenanigans have literally blown it for him. He was ineffective in the inclusive government, so what do people still want from this old wineskin? Yes, Cde R.G. may have his flaws, but at least he is steadfast in what he believes in, and considers our sovereignty as paramount. Can we say the same about Tsvangi dearest? *scratches head*

Please help what type of skin is Mr Tsvangirai at first I thought it was a camera is he english khaki

Hey you Zimbo, tell me one senior guy in your Zanu Pf, from the top most to the junior minister who does not have his own scandals involving women? Tell me one. They have small houses, they have divorced and ran after other women, they have taken other men's wives. THe fact that these immoralities are not reported everyday does not mean Zanu Pf has clean guys. So dont point at a speck on your neighbour's eye when u have a whole forest in yours.

Taurai - 21 January 2014

Morgan is zimbabwean he is not Malawian he has every right to make a plan to help our dying country he has this at hart .Mind you Morgan does not use mangoromera to win votes or anything and the country need him for that.

Dibulaanyika - 21 January 2014

At least he's got the guts to stand up and admit that something is not kosher with our country which we watch helplessly being dragged to its demise. Why do the people need to keep holding to the people who does nothing but promise them the earth. Let's all double check our parents, who comes from a family that has never had its own 'dust-ups' involving women? Tsvangirai's fallouts does not necessarily mean he's a proved record of failure, try to look beyong that, this guy's got everyone's interest at heart, period!!

Ubuntu Chavs - 21 January 2014
