Chiefs retains winning squad

BULAWAYO - Castle Premiership newcomers Plumtree Chiefs, formerly Bulawayo Chiefs, have vowed to stick to the squad that won them promotion into the Castle Premiership.

Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda expressed confidence in the majority of the players that did duty for the club last year.

“I already have the players I want, we are just looking forward to adding four or five players,” Sibanda told the Daily News.

“We are retaining 20 or more players who helped us gain promotion into Premier League. We already have five juniors and the remaining five places will have to be completed for by players we had in Division One and the few we have invited for trials.”

So far, AmaKhosi have snapped up former Zimbabwe Saints and Tripple B midfielder Rainsome Pavari.

Other notable names that have been spotted at the team’s training sessions include former Hardbody and Black Mambas winger Nhlanhla Ncube and nomadic goalkeepers Ndodana Sibanda and Winston Chiwetu.

Sibanda said his target is to survive relegation and maintain Chiefs’ status in the top-flight.

“As for this season we want to play well and avoid relegation,” Sibanda said.

“We are a new team in the Premier League but I have been there before and I have matured enough as a coach to come up with a team that can compete at the highest level.”

Chiefs have also kept faith in the technical department that won the Southern Region Division One championship.
