Sulu's new manager lays out vision

HARARE - Long-serving Orchestra Dendera Kings’ lead guitarist Knowledge “Nodza Nodza” Nkoma, who recently bounced back as manager of Suluman Chimbetu’s backing group, is determined to make the award-winning group Zimbabwe’s band of choice.

Nkoma, who recently replaced Trevor Jakachira as the Orchestra Dendera Kings’ manager, believes he has the ability to take the group to the next level.

“As you know I am not new to this position so I know precisely what I have to do to take the group to a higher level,” Nkoma told the Daily News.

“I was happy with the position the group was in when Jakachira replaced me and I am confident that I will do even better now that I have taken over from him. This time around I promise to lead the group to dizzy heights.

“I admired Jakachira’s leadership qualities. I learnt a lot from him and will apply some of the lessons passed over to me in bettering the band,” he said.

Nodza Nodza’s immediate task is to improve the welfare of the Orchestra Dendera Kings members.

“I have to make sure that band members are happy because that will encourage them to work hard,” he said.

“It is my wish to see each member owning a house and a car. The ultimate aim, of course, is for Orchestra Dendera Kings to travel around using our own private plane as is the norm in developed countries.”

Orchestra Dendera Kings’s publicist Joe Nyamungoma confirmed that Nkoma has been re-appointed as the group’s manager to allow Jakachira to concentrate on improving Sulu’s backing band’s relationship with the corporate sector. “Yes Jakachira and Nkoma have been re-assigned by the band,” said Nyamungoma.

Late last year media reports claimed that Sulu and his backing band were not very active during the festive season due to poor management.

The Sean Timba singer has reportedly rung changes in his band’s management structure because Jakachira was too busy with other things to effectively deliver on his mandate as band manager.
