Gamecocks beef up squad

HARARE - Castle Premiership outfit Chicken Inn has signed former Motor Action skipper Passmore Bernard and Morgen Mungombe in a bid to beef up their backline ahead of the 2014 season.

The Gamecocks management confirmed to the Daily News that the duo has put pen to paper while negotiations are underway to sign yet another former Mighty Bulls player Ishmael Lawe.

“We started our preparations this week and so far so good,” said Chicken Inn head coach Joey Antipas.

“At the moment there are three players that I can confirm that we have signed and these are Passmore Bernard, Morgen Mungombe and Ishmael Lawe.”

Antipas added  thaT the Gamecocks squad from last season is still intact with the only notable absentee being Tendai Ndoro whose loan deal came to an end at the end of last season.

“Our squad is more or less intact with Ndoro being the only player who is no longer with us while we are also waiting for developments on Kuda Mahachi’s move to (Mamelodi) Sundowns,” said Antipas.

Chicken Inn chairman Lifa Ncube confirmed the new signings although he said the Lawe deal is yet to be finalized.

“I can confirm that we acquired Bernard at the end of last season and we have recently added Morgen to the squad but the Lawe deal is yet to be sealed,” Ncube said.

“We also have a number of our junior players that are undergoing assessment by the technical team and if they are deemed capable they will be registered with the first team.”

Bernard has previously worked under Antipas at relegated Motor Action while Mungombe and Lawe were with another relegated Monomotapa although the latter also had a stint with the Mighty Bulls.
