Dynamos get bye in Bob 90 Super Cup

HARARE - Bob 90 Super Cup defending champions Dynamos will be waiting to play the winner between Highlanders and Harare City in the final after they got a bye in the elimination round of the tournament.

The elimination match between Bosso and the Sunshine Boys will be played at Barbourfields Stadium on February 16 while the finals are scheduled for February 23 at Rufaro Stadium.

“Dynamos got a bye in the finals because we want to give them a chance to defend their title,” tournament spokesman Charles Mabika said at a press conference yesterday.

“We have moved away from last year’s two-team format and three teams would be involved this year. We think by involving the three leading teams from last season will suit the occasion we will be celebrating.

"We are changing the format every year because we are trying to come up with a better format and also trying to be innovative,” he said.

The prize money would be announced at the official launch to be held at the end of this month.

“We are still negotiating with our sponsors on the exact money prize and we will announce the prizes at the official launch. Some of these sponsors are Chicken Slicer, Lobels, and Nyaradzo,” he added.

Now in its fourth year, the football competition is part of the celebrations to mark the birthday of President Robert Mugabe, which falls on February 21.
