Mugadza happy with preps

HARARE - Zimbabwe women football coach Rosemary Mugadza has expressed satisfaction with her team’s preparations ahead of next week’s trip to Egypt for a two-match friendly series.

The Mighty Warriors, who have been in camp for two weeks, will play against Egypt on January 22 and 25.

Mugadza’s women are using these friendly matches as part of preparations for their African Women’s Championship qualifiers, which kick off next month.

The Mighty Warriors will begin their campaign for qualification against Botswana on the weekend of February 13-15 in Gaborone with the return leg set for the weekend of March 1-2 in Harare.

“I am happy our preparations are going on well and the girls are showing good commitment. I think we are well on course,” Mugadza told the Daily News yesterday.

“The players are in much better shape physically and are getting their individual skills honed and forming effective combinations. I’ confident the girls will do well in Egypt.”

The former Mighty Warriors skipper said friendlies of this magnitude will help her assess their progress against some of the best teams on the continent.

“We respect Egypt. We have played them before and they are a good team. We have blended experience and youngsters,” said Mugadza.
