Waller targets domestic T20

HARARE - Zimbabwe cricket team coach Andy Waller is optimistic that the domestic Twenty20 tournament set for next month will go ahead as planned.

The tournament is scheduled for February 4 to 9 at Harare Sports Club and the national coach has earmarked the event to select his 15-man squad that will go into battle in Bangladesh for the World Twenty20.

The World T20 is set for Bangladesh in March and Zimbabwe will have to negotiate their way past the first round where they are drawn in Group B against Ireland, Holland and the United Arab Emirates.

“We are waiting to find out what’s happening with the players’ finances issue which can give us an indication on how to plan because everything depends on the commencement of the domestic franchise season,” Waller told the Daily News.

“Our plans were to go into camp soon after the T20 tournament that gets underway at the beginning of February, obviously we are a little behind with our preparations but as long as the T20 tournament is still on, the best 16 players will begin camp and hopefully we will leave for Bangladesh on March 6 which gives us 11 days to acclimatise before the games begin.”
