Mambokadzi turns to gospel

HARARE - Women dancing group, Mambokadzi, has turned to gospel music.

Yes gospel music!

Mambokadzi was among the most popular dance groups during the dance craze that swept through local showbiz between 2005 and 2010.

The award-winning dance group is well-known for dancing at Macheso’s concerts and also featuring on Joseph Garakara’s Idya Banana music video.

Enisia Mashusha, founder of the group confirmed to the Daily News that the group is now working on its comeback six-track gospel album.

Mambokadzi toured locally and regionally, and made Mashusha a household name however, with the decline in popularity and rise of pole dancers, it folded in 2010.

Mashusha said since 2010 when the group somehow collapsed, a lot has changed and now they are turning into gospel music.

“I am now a new person and full time Christian. I have seen it befitting for my group to venture into gospel music. Time changes and so do people,” said Mashusha.

She added that her going to Church has changed everything about her and she is now willing to disseminate the gospel through singing.

“I promise our fans that this year we are taking over and hoping they will walk with us in this journey,” she added.

Mashusha, dancer and choreographer is confident they will make waves in the gospel industry and hoping to inspire many.

She added that they are one of first women dance groups to invade sungura music circuit as dancers.

“We are the first group to dance to sungura music and now many dancing groups have joined in. We are hoping that through our music, we will inspire many to repent like what we did,” she said.

In 2009 Mashusha diverted from dancing and formed a band that released an album titled Ndotamba.

However, the album was poorly marketed and the band failed to hold any live shows.

Mashusha has taken the Mambokadzi brand into a completely different field —construction.

She formed Mambokadzi Construction Company late last year and is slowly penetrating the new market.

The company concentrates mainly on painting, driveway tiling, ceiling and pave way landscaping.
