Harare pastor faces rape charges

HARARE - A Pastor with Light of the World Ministries International is facing rape charges after he allegedly forced himself on an 18-year-old congregant during a prayer session.

Terrence Tenesi, 27, who is in police custody appeared before Harare Magistrate Aidonia Masawi.

During trial the woman’s mother said her daughter told her about the incident after hearing that she (victim) no longer respected the pastor.

“I came back home one day to be told that my daughter had fought with the pastor earlier. I was disappointed that she lacked respect for pastor and wanted to beat her,” she said.

“That was when she narrated the rape ordeal.”

The complainant’s mother said she later confronted Tenesi’s friend one Shingi Nagu about the incident.

“When I confronted Shingi he professed ignorance about the issue and referred me to his friend. We
arranged a meeting with Tenesi and he later admitted and promised to give us cows as an apology token after we threatened to report the matter to police,” the witness testified.

Prosecutor Liberty Gono alleges that on July 16 last year, Tenesi was invited to complainant’s house for prayers by her mother.

After the prayer session they retired to bed in separate rooms, the court heard.

It is the State’s case that during the night Tenesi called the woman into his room for more prayers and she mysteriously fell into deep sleep while in there.

It is alleged, she realised that she was naked when she woke up.

On July 17, during another prayer session Tenesi allegedly started undressing the woman before forcing himself on her.

The trial continues next week on Tuesday.
