Man kills, attempts to flee

FORT RIXON - A Fort Rixon man has been arrested at his hideout after fatally hitting and killing one Emmanuel Mkhaliphi with a stone.

The State alleges that on December 25 last year, Misheck Ncube, 21, of rural Lindeni was drunk and became violent, randomly hurling stones over Madzi Tuck Shop which is located at Ensangu village.

Ncube allegedly hit Mkhaliphi once on the right side of his head.

The court heard that the now deceased collapsed before he was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he died soon after arrival.

But although Ncube admitted to have committed the offence, he argued that Mkhaliphi had started hurling stones at him before he retaliated.

Ncube fled the scene after realising he had killed someone and hid for one week without trace.

Magistrate Gladmore Mushove remanded Ncube in custody up January 20 fearing that the accused would flee as he had attempted before police smoked him out of his hideout.

He further stated that Ncube behaved irresponsibly by hurling stones indiscriminately in a public place as there were chances that he could have harmed any other person around that area.

The court heard before he died, Mkhaliphi had mentioned that Ncube struck him with a stone on the head.
