Mighty Warriors gear up for Egypt

HARARE - Zimbabwe's women football team is now in camp preparing for an international friendly against Egypt in Cairo at the end of this month.

The match is part of the Mighty Warriors’ preparations for the African Women’s Championship (AWC) qualifier against Botswana in February.

Mighty Warriors assistant coach Johannes Chikaola said:

“We want to assess some of these players before we go to Botswana for the African Women’s Championship next month.

“We are taking the match seriously. We need to have the right attitude in our approach to this match.

“I am happy because we have enough time to prepare and we want to live no stone unturned.

“We also want our players to be fit; you can only gain match fitness if you play week in, week out. If you are not playing regularly you cannot gain match fitness and you will fail to last the entire 90 minutes of a match.”

Chikaola said there will be no easy passage for players into the final squad that will take part in the AWC qualifiers.

“I urge all players to work extra hard because we are going to select a strong team which will help us win the game,” he said.

“However, everyone is happy and morale is high. We have been training very hard and we do not have any problems as everything is going according to plan.”

If Zimbabwe overcomes Botswana, they will meet the winner between Zambia and Tanzania in the final qualifying round.

This year the AWC finals will be held in Namibia later in October.
