Dube named new VMCZ executive director

HARARE - Loughty Dube has been appointed executive director of the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe (VMCZ).

VMCZ is a professional media self-regulatory body set up in 2007 by Zimbabwean journalists and other stakeholders in civil society who subscribe to the principles of media freedom, accountability, independence, and ethical journalism.

The VMCZ board appointed Dube, a veteran journalist with impeccable credentials, executive director with effect from January 01, 2014.

Prior to this appointment, Dube was the VMCZ acting executive director.

Previously, he was the programmes officer, Advocacy and Complaints.

Dube has 15 years’ media and training experience. He has held several leadership positions in media organisations.

Dube’s appointment comes after the resignation of VMCZ executive director, Takura Zhangazha, who left the organisation on November 30, 2013 to pursue other interests after having been with the VMCZ for three years.

Alec Muchadehama, VMCZ board chairperson, said: “On behalf of the VMCZ Board, I wish Mr. Dube well in his new responsibilities and I call on all VMCZ members and stakeholders to support him in his new position.”
