All set for New Winners tourney

HARARE - More than 200 junior tennis players from across the country are expected to converge at Harare Sports Cub today to take part in the New Winners Junior Tennis tournament.

The event is set to start today and will end on Friday.

Tennis Zimbabwe (TZ) administrator Cliff Nhokwara said the tournament is meant to develop and sustain the skills learnt by young tennis players by keeping them actively involved in the game.

“The continuous hosting of these tournaments has helped develop skills and is also meant to sharpen the skills of the young players,” Nhokwara told the Daily News yesterday.

“The Tennis Tournament will be conducted in five different age categories namely; Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18, girls and boys.

“The tourney is a junior open event and we expect a tight competition from all players across the country.

“We are expecting more than 200 players from across the country .This is one of the best junior tournaments we have on our calendar.”

The New Winners tournament is an annual event held by TZ to start their calendar.

Last year, Ronzai Saurombe and Latifah Yasini won the titles in the Under-18 boys and girls section respectively.
