'Attorney stole $35 000 from clients'

HARARE - A Harare lawyer yesterday appeared before two different magistrates facing three separate charges of stealing from his clients.

Simbarashe Tsaurai, 30, is being accused of stealing trust property worth $25 000 from Josiah Ncube and $10 000 from David Matanda.

It is the state case that Tsaurai was in both cases given cash but failed to remit the money to the clients upon demand.

Crispen Chikafu, the state counsel, alleges that Tsaurai was on the run for misusing clients’ money since November last year. He was arrested by police on December 31, 2013.

Harare magistrate Margaret Ushamba granted him bail and ordered him not to interfere with state witness. He was also ordered to report to court for trial on January 22.

In a separate case, Tsaurai is alleged to have defrauded Francis Muzeya, the managing director of Raclevair Enterprises, of $13 000 which was paid to him by the Harare businessman.

The cash was meant for payments of rentals to the premises he was renting for his businesses.

Magistrate Musaiona Shortgame deferred judgment on the bail ruling to January 6, 2014. Tsaurai will remain in custody.
