Manyuchi WBC fight postponed

HARARE - Zimbabwe welterweight champion Charles Manyuchi’s WBC fight against Ghanaian Patrick Allotey has been postponed to March 15 after his Zambian counterpart Catherine Phiri’s opponent pulled out of the January 25 bout.

Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) operations manager Chris Malunga told the Zambian Times that France’s Nadia Hokmi had pulled out of the fight and that her stable was now waiting to hear from the WBC on the possible opponent for Catherine.

“Such things always happen in boxing and this will work to our advantage because the boxers will have extra time to train adequately,” he said.

“Many of our sponsors that have pledged towards the hosting of the event have gone on industrial break but with the change of date this will not worry us because by then the sponsors will be back from their breaks,” added Malunga.

Malunga said the boxers will remain in camp and the development will not affect but will instead give the sponsors time to market the fight.

There will be three supporting bouts that would see Zimbabwe’s Takudzwa Kuchocha take on Congolese welterweight boxer Mbiya Kanku with the second women bout involving Zimbabwean Monalisa Sibanda against Zambia’s Lolita Muzeya also in a welterweight non-title contest.

Zimbabwe’s Wesley MacDade will face Zambian light-heavyweight Donald Kampamba.
