Sables end year in 30th place

HARARE - Zimbabwe's rugby team has ended the year ranked a respectable number 30 on the IRB World Rankings, the best third-placed African country on the list.

Global powerhouse South Africa are second in the world behind the invincible All Blacks of New Zealand, while the Sables’ long-time continental rivals, Namibia, are 23rd.

Reigning African champions Kenya are four places below Zimbabwe on number 34.

Islanders Madagascar are placed two rungs below the Kenyans.

Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya and Madagascar are the four teams which will battle it out for Africa’s sole place, other than South Africa, for the 2015 World Cup in England.

Brendan Dawson's men are hoping to return to the World Cup for the first time in 21 years.
