BULAWAYO - A 22-year-old Nkayi man stunned a Bulawayo court when he claimed that a six-year-old niece he raped consented to engaging in sexual intercourse with him but began to resist when they were about to finish.
Kelvin Ncube of Mandindi village was denied bail and remanded in custody by Bulawayo Magistrate Ndumo Masuku to December 30 after admitting to raping his Grade One niece.
It is the state case that on October 21 at around 3pm, the complainant who cannot be named for ethical reasons, arrived from school in the company of her cousin and found her mother not home.
The two minors began to play within the yard waiting for her mother to return home.
At around 3:30pm, Ncube arrived at the complainant’s home and asked for salt.
The complainant told him that the hut where salt was kept was locked and her mother was not home.
Ncube opened the bedroom door of the complainant’s sister and called the minor to the room.
The court further heard that Ncube raped the six-year-old.
The minor related her ordeal to her mother when she returned home.
The matter was reported to Gwelutshena Police Station culminating in Ncube’s arrest.
