DeMbare struggle to finalise squad

HARARE - Dynamos are struggling to raise a squad for next year’s Champions League and face hefty fines from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for late registration of players.

Just like in the previous seasons, DeMbare’s activity in the transfer market has not been convincing and their quest for at least a place in the lucrative group stage might remain but just a pipe dream.

With Caf’s deadline for the registration of players having elapsed on Sunday night, DeMbare are reportedly struggling to conclude deals with their desired targets, especially upfront where they need more fire power.

The Glamour Boys could be forced to pay $500 for each player for late registration until December 31.

Last week, DeMbare submitted a 19-member provisional squad for the Champions League and have eight players in their proposed wish list with whom they are still negotiating.

Dynamos only added five players to that list with Russell Madamombe, Tatenda Mukuruva, Ronald Chitiyo, Devon Chafa and Walter Mukanga making their way to bring the number to 23 players, who have been submitted to Caf by Sunday midnight.

Lack of funds has hampered the team’s registration of players and even those who have agreed to join the club are insisting they get their signing on fees before committing themselves.

The Zimbabwean champions have so far signed Buffaloes defender Themba Ndlovu and Ronald Chitiyo from relegated Monomotapa.

Former CAPS United and Ajax Cape Towm midfielder Tafadzwa Rusike is also understood to be willing to join DeMbare with the signing on fees being the sticking point.

DeMbare are also keen on the services of Chicken Inn winger Kuda Mahachi should he fail to get move outside the country. Mahachi has reportedly revealed his interest to join Dynamos.

Mahachi was on loan with Chicken Inn from his parent club Bantu Rovers and the deal has since expired, and Bantu Rovers will have a say in the player’s future.

The Glamour Boys are understood to be negotiating contract extension with Ugandan Boban Zirinutsa. They are also said to be in negotiations with FC Platinum’s pair of Donald Ngoma and Nelson Maziwisa.

Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro, however, refused to be drawn into panic.

“We are still negotiating with about eight players. We are hoping everything will go according to plan,” Chihoro told the Daily News yesterday.

“We cannot reveal names of those we are interested in at this point in time. From the 19 players we announced last week, only four players have been included.

Provisional Squad: George Chigova, Artwell Mukandi, Oscar Machapa, Augustine Mbara, Victor Kamhuka, Thomas Magorimbo, Partson Jaure, Themba Ndlovu, Ocean Mushure, Gift Bello, Sydney Linyama, Stephen Alimenda, Murape Murape, Tichaona Mabvura, Tawanda Muparati, Cliff Sekete, Simba Sithole, Washington Pakamisa, Patrick Khumbula, Russel Madamombe, Ronald Chitiyo, Walter Mukanga, Tatenda Mukuruva, Devon Chafa.
