Mbare Chimurenga Choir woman abandons family

HARARE - A Mbare Chimurenga Choir member has abandoned her family and is refusing her husband conjugal rights, a Harare magistrate heard yesterday.

This emerged after Fungai Nyamandi dragged her husband Maxwell Mauto before the Harare Civil Courts seeking a protection order.

Nyamandi told magistrate Rebecca Kuvhiya that Mauto physically and verbally abuses her.

Mauto refuted Nyamandi’s allegations saying it was her who had abandoned their house.

“She is my wife and I love her,” Mauto said.

“She sings in the Mbare Chimurenga Choir and I do not abuse her.

“She has abandoned the children but I take care of them.”

Mauto told the court his wife was abdicating her wifely duties to wash his clothes, does not do any household chores anymore and denies him conjugal rights.

“I have gone nine months now without having sex with her,” Mauto said.

“She always tells me that she is sick. I am now suspecting that she is having an extra marital affair with someone because she is now living with her brother. I think she is being pressured by her friends who she sings with. I am now a laughing stock in Mbare.”

Nyamandi denied Mauto’s allegations saying that she ran away because her husband wanted to assault her.

Magistrate Kavhiya ordered Mauto not to physically or verbally abuse Nyamandi and observe peace towards each other.
