Makambwa, Mahachi win Mantas Jnr tennis tourney

HARARE - Zimbabwe rising stars Ngonidzashe Makambwa and Rudo Mahachi are the champions of this year’s edition of Mantas junior tennis tournament in the Under-18 boys and girls category respectively.

Makambwa won a titanic battle against Alywn Mushonga 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 to win the title in the Under-18 boys category.

Mahachi enjoyed a convincing straight sets win against Sharyln Thole 6-4, 6-2.

Valentine Munyawiri was crowned the champion in the Under 14 boys category, having won all his five matches in a round robin format.

In his last match, Munyawiri outclassed Tafadzwa Mubikwa 6-2, 6-2.

In the Under 14 girls section, Beverly Matsiwe beat Chengeto Moyana 6-1, 6-1 to win the title.

Anesu Kwirirai won the title in the Under-12 boys category after beating Taona Muhwandagara 6-2, 6-1 while Abbasi Mohamed was crowned the champion in the Orange ball boys category.

In the green ball boys category Michel Happy beat Strive Bosha 6-3, 5-7, 10-6.

Meanwhile, seven junior tennis players from Mantas academy yesterday left the country for Gauteng junior tennis tournament in South Africa at Benoni Lake Tennis Stadium.

In the boys category, Makambwa will be joined by Batsirai Saurombe, Machel

Zhou, Anesu Kwirirai and Kudzai Chirochierwa while Matsiwe, Nambi Munyunwla and Michelle Chirochierwa will be hoping to impress in the girls category.
