DeMbare to finalise Champs League squad

HARARE - Dynamos team manager Richard Chihoro yesterday revealed the Castle Premiership champions have set themselves until end of week to finalise their 2014 African Champions League squad.

The club has until December 31 to submit to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) the full list of players who will take part in the Champions League next year.

DeMbare, who failed to scale the first round hurdle in the tournament in the previous two years, are aiming to qualify for the mini-league stage next year.

The record Zimbabwean champions are eager to make a huge mark in Africa next year and Chihoro stressed the need to retain the core of their title winning squad and early conclusion of player deals.

“There are no deals to talk about as yet. The coach has been busy with the national team and we are expecting him back this afternoon,” Chihoro told Daily News yesterday.

“The important thing is to keep players from last season. We will release some few players to allow new signings. We don’t want make a lot of changes and we are looking at acquiring about four or five players.

“The good thing is we have already identified players we want to sign. We are expecting to finalise the team this week. We will resume training on Thursday and by then I am sure we will be in a position to know who is coming and leaving.

“It is important to conclude on the signing of our players as soon as possible so that we can start preparing for the Champions League. We want to do well this time around. We are expecting to build a strong team for the tournament.”

Reports from the Dynamos camp also indicate that the Glamour Boys are looking at releasing about six players to pave way for the new signings. Dynamos are also working tirelessly to retain the services of midfielder Russel Madamombe, who was on loan from Monomotapa.

The Glamour Boys have also reportedly agreed personal terms with Chicken Inn midfielder Kuda Mahachi. Mahachi is understood to have made it clear his desire to play for the record 20-time Zimbabwean champions if a move abroad fails to sail through.

Pasuwa has already submitted his shopping list to the executive to beef up the squad during this off-season.

the technical team need to identify and recruit players who are tailor made to plug the weaknesses identified in current squad and not shopping names only.Failure to address this will result in mourning once again next year.
