'Zanu PF on track to meet $3m target'

HARARE - President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF is on track to raise $3 million towards holding its 14th Annual National People’s Conference, with Manicaland Province scheduled to hold a massive fund-raising dinner on Friday.

The dinner will be held at the upmarket Golden Peacock Hotel in Mutare.

Mandiwanzira said all the bigwigs in Manicaland Province have been invited.

“Come and witness Didymus Mutasa or Oppah Muchinguri jiving away on the dance floor to our local music,” Mandiwanzira said.

The 14th Zanu PF Annual National Peoples Conference will be held under the theme “Zim Asset: Growing the Economy for Empowerment and Employment”. It will also be held next week in Chinhoyi (Mashonaland West).

Other fund-raising dinners have already been held in various provinces, pooling funds for the conference.

Charles Tavengwa, deputy secretary of finance in the politburo said they were planning to raise $3 million for the conference.

“There are fund-raising activities going around in every province and we are on track to raise that money,” he said. “We are appealing for cash or kind from individuals and corporates.”

Tavengwa said the minimum amount needed from each province was $50 000.
