Gorowa casts net wider

HARARE - Zimbabwe have named several uncapped players in their squad to prepare for Sunday's international friendly against Mozambique at Barbourfields Stadium.

Ian Gorowa has announced his provisional 24-man squad for the friendly, missing a number of regular local-based players as the Warriors coach look to increase options ahead of January’s Chan finals in South Africa.

The team will assemble in Harare this morning before leaving for Bulawayo in the afternoon, where they will be camped ahead of the match.

Some of the new players who have made it into the squad are Shabanie Mine midfielder Frankson Bushire, Black Rhinos midfielder Wonder Kapinda, Buffaloes defender Themba Ndlovu, Triangle forward Misheck Mburayi and winger Nkosana Siwela of Hwange.

There was also a place for Nqobile Khumalo of Bantu Rovers, who becomes the only player in the squad plying his trade outside the Castle Premiership.

Dynamos’ Partson Jaure, Hardlife Zvirekwi of CAPS United, alongside the Chicken Inn pair of Kuda Mahachi and Danny Phiri are some of the few regulars who have been included into the team.

Warriors assistant coach Callisto Pasuwa said they will take the game seriously as Zimbabwe gear up for the forthcoming Chan.

“We have looked for players whom we have not given game time previously,” Pasuwa told Daily News yesterday.

“We want to assess some of these players before we go to Chan next year. We are taking the match seriously and we are expecting Mozambique to give us a good run for our money. We need to have the right attitude in our approach to this match.”
