Bulawayo South MP in trouble over racial slur

BULAWAYO - Nkululeko Ndhlovu, suspended MDC administrator for Bulawayo provincial office, has dragged Bulawayo South MP, Edward Graham Cross to court accusing him of insulting and allegedly defaming him by claiming he was a thief.

The State alleges that on October 17 at around noon, Ndlovu phoned Cross, 73, at his Burnside home informing him to return surplus cash which he had paid to his polling agents during the July 31 elections.

During the conversation, the state alleges Cross launched into a racial tirade, insulting Ndhlovu and stating that “black people are incapable of governing properly.”

Cross is alleged to have continued using offensive language saying Ndlovu was “stupid and talked crap.”
Afterwards, Cross allegedly sent a message through his mobile phone to the complainant accusing him of being a thief.

Cross is alleged to have threatened to sack the complainant from his job as party administrator.
Ndhlovu lodged a case with the police.

The state found Cross guilty of breaching the Post and Telecommunications Service Act (Chapter 12:02) that deals with sending grossly offensive messages by telephone.

Magistrate Gladmore Mushowe warned the accused person not to engage in such act in future and set December 2 for sentencing.

Cross was released on free bail.
