$100 000 for Zanu PF dinner

HARARE - President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu PF will on Friday hold a dinner to raise $3 million for hosting its annual conference slated for Chinhoyi in December.

Zanu PF is hoping that struggling firms will fork out cash for the conference, with the most expensive table, Platinum, going for $100 000 for 10 people.

Addressing  a press briefing at the Zanu PF  headquarters in Harare yesterday, Rugare Gumbo, the party’s spokesperson, said those willing to assist the party to hold its annual conference will have to pay for tables.

“Platinum is $100 000, Gold is $50 000, silver is $30 000, bronze is $10 000 and general is $2 000,” Gumbo told reporters.

“Individual tickets will be selling at $200.”

Gumbo was flanked by Charles Tawengwa, the deputy secretary for finance and Felix Mhona, the fund-raising committee coordinator.

The dinner will be addressed by Joice Mujuru, the party’s vice president and second secretary, amid high hopes that $3 million will be raised from the dinner dance.

Zanu PF has scheduled this year’s annual conference for December 12 to15 under the theme “celebrating a victory.”

Mhona said he was confident the corporate world and individuals will support the effort.

“In the spirit of celebrating the victory of the party, many companies are willing to help the party,” Mhona said.

“As the organising team, we are confident that we will raise the money for the successful hosting of our conference.”

During the conference, the party is going to hold a business expo at the Chinhoyi Municipality Park.

Those willing to exhibit, Mhona said, would have to approach the organising team which comprises Goodson Nguni and Pamela Chitupa.

“The exhibition expo may be opened by His Excellency,” he said. “We intend that when he has finished planting the tree as he always does, then perhaps he can open the business expo.”

The $3 million will go towards food, accommodation and erecting a makeshift venue for the conference, although the party says plans are underway to construct a permanent convention centre in Mashonaland West Province.

He said material for the temporary structure was already in the country.

The party intends to construct a $10 million permanent conference structure just like the one it assembled in Gweru for last year’s conference.

I dont understand why these guys think that it is possible to raise $3 million dollars for zanu pf through a gala dinner. With most companies closing, where is that money going to come from. May I know the brains behind this whole fundraising fiction.

if zanu pf can raise $3 million through a gala dinner then maybe they should be doing such fund raisings on a monthly basis to raise money for the broke governmnet.

if they need $3 million for a party convention which lasts at most say 3 to four days, how much does the government need to run the entire economy, I am just saying.

Maybe if they raise $3 million, they do not intend to blow all of it at the upcoming party convention. i am just saying.
