Warriors date Tanzania

HARARE – After much criticism of failing to capitalise on the Fifa international dates, the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) have finally organised an international friendly for the Warriors this week.

The Zimbabwe national team will on Tuesday take on Tanzania in an international friendly in Dar es Salaam.

The match will form part of preparations for the locally-based senior national team’s participation in the African Nations Championships (Chan) tournament to be held early next year in South Africa.

The Warriors technical team has however decided to include two foreign based players in the team, defender Carrington Nyadomba and under-fire AmaZulu goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini.

The side is expected to live for Tanzania on Monday.

Zifa communications officer Xolisani Gwesela said they had lined up a host of friendly internationals to get the Warriors geared up for next January’s Chan finals.

“It is the priority as the mother body to ensure that we give local talent enough international competition,” he said.

“It is also our prerogative that they prepare for Chan as much as possible.

“Also in the pipeline is a friendly against Mozambique. We expect to play Mozambique at Barbourfields Stadium on the 8th of December.

“We are also optimistic that you we are going to play Gabon in January in Johannesburg, South Africa.”
