Exam markers $2 pay too little

EDITOR — I was shocked to read that teachers who marked Grade 7 examinations were paid a paltry $2 for 11 days’ work.

If I was in their shoes, I would have reacted the same way they did.

Honestly guys, we might have problems politically, economically or otherwise but we cannot stoop so low as to abuse our own in such a fashion.

How can the government fail to pay teachers better when government officials are awaiting new vehicles.

I believe this is unfair to the teachers and they deserve better treatment for the work they do in teaching our children and marking the exam papers to ensure that our children move to the next level.

I would like to call upon relevant ministry to stop abusing teachers and make sure that they are remunarated accordingly for their efforts.

We cannot reach the promised land without a functional, efficient, effective and competitive education system with competent professional who are fairly treated and remunerated.
