Macfest to roll out all-year calendar

GWERU - Organisers of the Midlands Arts and Culture Festival (Macfest) have mooted plans to come up with an all-year calendar of events with the hope of making the fiesta attractive to both locals and foreigners.

Macfest director Joe Wailer is convinced that lessons learnt during the organisation’s six-year history will make it easier to take the six-day event to a higher level.

“Our festival has witnessed tremendous growth since we began three years ago but our plans now are to meet international standards and be able to draw the attention of the universal audience,” Wailer told the Daily News yesterday.

“We are drawing lessons from the way we have run the festival since it began and we are very confident that we will attain our ambitious targets.”

As part of the new plans, Macfest will hold a weekly poetry slam at the Midlands Hotel every Friday which they hope will grow bigger with time.

“We are introducing a poetry slam similar to the one they do at the Book Café in Harare. We are confident that the poetry event will be a start of more initiatives,” said the Macfest director.
