PSL title race talking points

HARARE - Another intriguing Castle Premiership title race is on the cards with Harare City and Highlanders both hoping to dethrone defending champions Dynamos.

Although FC Platinum and CAPS United still have a chance to play catch up, it looks like the two have left their title challenge too late.

With three games to go before the season ends, it will be an absorbing battle to the finish line when the league resumes next week after the Mbada Diamonds Cup semi-finals.

The Daily News takes a look at the teams vying for the championship to see how they are likely to fare in the run-in to the title.

The Glamour Boys occupy the summit of the log table with 49 points while Harare City are second with the same number of points.

DeMbare, however, have a healthier goal difference of +19 with City sitting on +12. In the past two seasons, Dynamos have won the title on goal difference ahead of Platinum and Highlanders respectively.

Calisto Pasuwa’s men, however, have some tricky matches in those three remaining fixtures.

Dynamos face Shabanie Mine at home in their next match, which promises to be a tight contest. The reverse fixture finished 1-1 at Maglas Stadium earlier in the season.

DeMbare’s form at home has been consistent as they have won seven and drawn six of their matches at Rufaro Stadium.

Their away form should however worry Pasuwa as they still have to travel to Luveve Stadium to face Chicken Inn in the penultimate game of the season.

All four of Dynamos’ losses have come on the road and that visit to Luveve could prove to a potential banana skin.

The defending champions round up their season with a home game against relegation threatened Black Mambas. This should be another three points in the bag for Dynamos.

Judging by their form and precedence, Dynamos are likely to get six points from these three matches.

Harare City

Of all the leading contenders for the title, the Sunshine Boys appear to have the most difficult fixtures to round up their season.

In their next match, Bigboy Mawiwi’s men face at home an already relegated Motor Action side that frustrated title chasers Highlanders to a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

On paper, City should be able to collect all three points from this encounter but if they are complacent, their title aspirations could be derailed by the Mighty Bulls.

In their penultimate game of the season, the Sunshine Boys will host Highlanders in what could prove to be the turning point of the season.

If City win that game and depending on results elsewhere, they could wrestle control of the title race.

Since gaining promotion into the league last season, City have never beaten Bosso with both games last season ending in draws.

Highlanders emerged with a 2-0 win in the first meeting between these two teams this season and City will be out for revenge. Another draw is likely to be the result

The Sunshine Boys round up their season with an away game to CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium.

City have an edge on the head-to-head results against CAPS, having beaten the Green Machine once this season while the other two games in 2012 ended in draws.

This meeting between City and CAPS has a draw written all over it and this means the Sunshine Boys would have collected five points from their remaining three matches.

Bosso wasted a golden opportunity to get back on top of the log at the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Motor Action.

The Bulawayo giants now trail Dynamos by a single point and now need to collect maximum points in all their remaining fixtures if they are to have a chance.

Next up for Bosso is a dance with the high flying Triangle at home. With everything that is at stake, Bosso are likely to edge the sugarcane farmers in this one.

After that Tshilamoya face Harare City away in a match we have already predicted to be a draw.

Highlanders round up their season with a home match against Shabanie Mine.

Highlanders should be able to collect maximum points in this match, meaning they would have garnered seven points in their remaining matches.

With the way the league has shaped up and looking, we are likely to face a scenario where Dynamos and Highlanders end up tied on 55 points each.

Once again the league winner will be decided by goal difference and the two teams are currently tied on +19 goals each.

you cannever be far from the truth and also further note that Bosso have already beaten all their opponents while Dembare only managed all draws

As far as I remember Dynamos has never been beaten twice by the same team in one season. In this case I predict a victory to Dynamos this season.

I dont see dynamos beating chicken inn,the best they can manage will be a draw,I also see mambas shocking dembare at Rufaro, they stand a chance on shabanie but with the way they have been playing lately a draw is likely against shabanie.Bosso need to beat city but i tip them for the title this year.

To be fair I do not see Bosso drawing or beating City at Rufaro. I give that one to City. Triangle has scores to settle with Bosso and I see them putting up a spirited performance to make up for what happened paMbada. Shabanie itself is a tricky customer. VaHombe is a DeMbare sympathiser and he may be tempted to try to help them win the title by making life difficult for Bosso. DeMbare: Shabanie can be beaten, but as for Chicken Inn I can foresee a defeat. But as the defending champions and also as a team wanting to win the championship for a third straight season they may put up a spirited fight like they did pa Bosso because winning the league will atone for a largely disappointing season. Mambas can be beaten but DeMbare should not get complacent lest they regret the experience. Mambas are tricky customers. City: I expect them to face a tough challenge but they win though. As joint leaders with DeMbare, City will fight to the end. I expect them to win against Bosso, but it will be tough. PaCaps, umm its a challenge, Kepe Kepe bhora will win this one. They have been decent this season and they are fighting for their reputation so they will try to win this one.
