Another top official fired from Ncube's MDC

BULAWAYO - The Welshman Ncube-led MDC has sacked Alderman Charles Mpofu for inciting people against the party and bringing it into disrepute.

Mpofu, who recently called for the dissolution of the whole party, was reportedly expelled after the Bulawayo disciplinary committee found him guilty of the charges.

In an interesting turn of events, Mpofu rubbished the expulsion arguing that he resigned two days before the disciplinary committee sat down.

In his dismissal letter dated October 31, disciplinary committee chairman Paul Malaba advised Mpofu of his expulsion. The letter says he is not to participate in the activities of the MDC with immediate effect.

“The reason of your expulsion is the breach of Appendix 1, 2 that is inciting people against the party and bringing the party into disrepute,” read part of the letter which was also copied to the party’s national secretary general.

Among the reasons cited for Mpofu’s expulsion from the party included a story which appeared in this newspaper calling for the dissolution of the whole party as well as disrespecting the party’s leadership.

In his resignation letter,  Mpofu cites the story which appeared in this paper.

Provincial spokesperson Edwin Ndlovu confirmed the expulsion.

“I can confirm that Mpofu has been expelled from the party while Ntando Ndlovu from the youth wing has been suspended pending a disciplinary hearing,” Ndlovu said.

He also dismissed the resignation by Mpofu choosing to say it was “a malicious piece of document meant to save his face by purporting to have resigned before the expulsion. If he resigned, how come we have not received his letter?” Ndlovu queried.

Mpofu, who is the losing parliamentary candidate for Nketa and  has been with Zapu, Zanu PF and the united MDC, is the second member to be fired by the party after Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Petros Mukwena.

Mukwena was fired for misconduct.
