Top SA music stars invade Beitbridge

BULAWAYO - Celebrated Djs from the Kalawa Jazmee stable, Dr Malinga and Professor will perform tonight at the Pagomba Café on the first day of the two-day inaugural Beitbridge International Festival of Arts.

The celebrated duo will share the stage with Iyasa and former Afrika Revenge member Willis Wattafi.

Nkululeko Nkala, one of the organisers of the festival, said the new arts event will also give a platform to Beitbridge Groups like G star, Roja T, Duliside family and CGD among others.

“There will be afternoon and evening shows at the same venue so as to enable all people access to the shows,” said Nkala.

“Both afternoon shows for Friday (today) and Saturday (tomorrow) are free in line with the festival idea of reaching out to the community and bringing them quality performing acts from here and elsewhere.”

The festival’s is running under the theme “Big art, small town” which Nkala describes as a necessary catalyst to the expansion of the arts and culture small town.

The inaugural Beitbridge International Festival of Arts has roped in several drama groups to cater for theatre lovers.

Apart from local drama groups, Bwanali from Hwange and Jahunda Performing Arts from Gwanda will also get a platform to prove why they are among some of the most popular drama groups in the country.

Sungura kingpin Alick Macheso has been granted the honour of closing the inaugural festival in the border town.

The Tafadzwa hit-maker will share the stage with Plumtree-based Clement Magwaza on Saturday.
