Mandla Mpofu throws in the towel

BULAWAYO – Chicken Inn head coach Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu on Monday resigned from his post following a spate of poor results.

The final straw that broke the camel’s back is thought to have been the  Saturday loss to Hwange at Barbourfields Stadium where the Game Cocks surrendered a one goal lead to go down 1 – 2 to the coalminers.

This was Chicken Inn’s ninth loss of the season and after the match Mpofu himself admitted that it would be difficult to realize the target that was set at the beginning of the season of a top four finish.

Mpofu’s assistant Mkhuphali Masuku will take over for the remainder of the season.

Masuku has previously been in charge of Highlanders and Caps United in the top flight and is also an assistant coach to Warriors head coach Ian Gorowa.

Prior to the Hwange loss Chicken Inn lost twice to Caps United in a matter of days with a similar 2-1 score line.

The first defeat came in a Mbada Diamonds Cup quarter final tie and the other one was a Castle Premiership encounter.

Mpofu, who promised to provide details on his separation from Chicken Inn today, is on record saying the congested fixture schedule was affecting his charges’ performance.
