In-form Chawafambira eyes Zambia Open

HARARE - Fresh from bagging the just-ended Malawi Open, Zimbabwean junior tennis ace Pauline Chawafambira takes to the court Wednesday hoping to add the Zambian Open to her trophy cabinet.

The Mantas Tennis Academy product was in a class of her own in Blantyre last week where she won both the Malawi Open singles and doubles titles.

The 19-year-old tennis ace is now fancying her chances of outwitting a host of other competitors from 10 other countries at the clay courts of Lusaka Tennis Club.

“My chances are pretty high. I am so confident after having won the Malawi Open,” Chawafambira told the Daily News.

“I just have to remain focused.”

The Zambian Open will host players from DR Congo, Botswana, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Kenya, China, Serbia, South Africa, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Zimbabwe’s Malcom Mutungamiri and Liberty Nzula will take part in the men’s category.

But they are set to face stiff competition from Zambian top seed Edgar Kazembe, who is the defending champion. Kazembe also won the Malawi Open.
