Dudu Manhenga's bail application deferred

HARARE - Jailed Afro-Jazz diva Dudu Tracy Manhenga’s High Court bail application pending appeal has been deferred to Tuesday after State lawyers requested for the submission of transcribed records from the magistrates’ courts, original notice of appeal and proper paging of the transcript.

Manhenga had earlier on filed a notice of appeal at Harare Magistrates’ Courts against the 18-month-prison-term for culpable homicide and driving without a licence but it was dismissed.

When her application was thrown out by the magistrate court, she appealed to the High Court where Justice Hlekani Mwayera deferred the bail application to next week Tuesday.

In her bail application, Manhenga argued that she was able to stand trial after three years after committing the crime.

She argues that she is a law abiding person who has no intention of fleeing especially since she had made herself available for sentencing after her conviction.

The songstress, who is a trainee pastor, hit the now deceased, motor cyclist Graham Martin in Mabelreign, Harare in March 2010.

Dudu, just serve your 18months in prison, you committed a crime and you should face the music, how could you drive with a learners license? Don't try to seek sympathy just coz u r a celeb. You should be happy u r serving 18months, your judge was soft on your case. Some people are serving 15, 20 yrs... Now be a good pastor and lead by example to the biblical law which states that " you reap what you sow". And pliz remember a life (innocent blood) was lost because of your negligence....

Focusing on the plight of Dudu Manhenga is a good thing. But must not forget the the pain being felt by the famili of the person who died as a result of Dudu's actions. Dudu will come back to join his family, but her victim will not.

I am hundred per cent of the view that Dudu made a big and gross error especially because it resulted in a death casuality. She is guilty at law. She must be having a terrible time with her conscience being a woman of cloth. But forgiveness is for grave errors like this otherwise it is not forgivemness. It is not

Dudu please there is nothing to appeal here. Just serve your term. You did wrong and you should pay for it. How could you drive with a learner's license. Wakozotibhowa

Dudu claims to be a law abiding citizen and yet she killed someone when she was driving without a licence. Law abiding people do not behave that way!!
