Stop buying govt fleet from West — Mliswa

HARARE - Temba Mliswa, Zanu PF MP for Hurungwe West,  yesterday received a standing ovation in Parliament from legislators, when he said government should not buy Western-made vehicles such as the Ford Rangers that it intends to buy.

He said the country was suffering from economic sanctions imposed by Western countries, but was doing business with some of these countries at the expense of the local industry.

Contributing to debate on the presidential speech, Mliswa said government was empowering Western countries indirectly by doing business with them through importing vehicles from countries such as Germany, ignoring local motor industries such as the Willowale Mazda Motor Industries which is stuttering.

“With or without sanctions we must be supporting our industries, and not spend money doing business with them,” Mliswa said. “Why should we buy tractors and vehicles like Ford vehicles from these European countries that have imposed sanctions on us?” Mliswa asked to rapturous applause from MDC lawmakers.

Yesterday, the Daily News reported that government was in the process of buying 100 twin cab Ford Ranger vehicles at an estimated cost of $6 million.

MDC legislators, who have vowed not to partake in the presidential debate, were jolted by Mliswa’s unusually frank remarks.

Mliswa wave kufarisa, you are forgetting that you were once locked up for your loud mouth. Mugabe and his senior war comrades ditched the Communist way of life a long time ago. Remember the military style Chinese suits? They have now been replaced with Gucci and Armani suits and the same goes for vehicles. That is why they are crying about the sanctions all the time- they want to go and shop in London and New York.

I never thought I would ever say well said to anything coming from Mliswa but hey, he talks a mountain of sense here no wonder he received a standing ovation..How much would 6 million go in getting Willowvale back on its feet? Of course Willowvale will also need to get the albatross called IDC off its neck as well..Otherwise what is this dead bird doing around Willowvales's neck besides add cost and confusion???

Themba you are right. 1. The president is sending thousands of students to Sa on presidential scholarhips wasting a lot of money in the process for programmes that are available in Zim. 2. The government is importing ARVs outside while local industries are shutting down because of low demand. 3. The government/ Zanu Pf big wigs give donations to winners of big brothers ($200 000.00) when some of our hospitals can be turned around with $50 000.00. 5. Now this? This tender should be given to Willowvale Motor Industries. Period. 6. The same applies to the input scheme, why not give subsidies to manufactures such as Seedco, Farmec, Pioneer, ZFC for them to produce other than give the povo free seeds. These seeds will be diverted by the greedy chefs. They will not find their way to the povo. Very soon they will flood Mbare Musika. Its a shame. 7. Daily News you must interrogate these things. Do not be shallow in your reporting.

Other than the Chinese-made vehicles which other where else can Zim get sanctions free vehicles. The Japanese have sanctions against Mugabe. Willowvale does make manufacture, it only assembles , and those kits do not come from China

It's sanctions only when the ZANU PF bigwigs cannot go shopping on 5th Ave in NYC. WMI stated last week that reduced demand for their vehicles was causing them financial distress yet the govt prefers to give business to these car dealers who bring in luxury models. Mliswa is right, imagine how such an order would help WMI? ZANU PF are the biggest frauds and hypocrites today.

Bravo Cde Mliswa, let's mean what we say.

Cheziya Hachinangozi - 18 October 2013

if Zimbabwe was under sanctions from the US it would not be able to buy the Ford Rangers from them in the first place. Trade with the US and EU has increased since the imposition of "sanctions".

ivor payne - 18 October 2013

Mliswa may be a ZANU (PF) MP and he was bold to say the truth which most ZANU (PF) agree with in private. The problem is that if you are a member of the revolutionery party you risk being branded disloyal yet it is common knowledge that most in the party are in it for financial gain and getting prestigeous positions such as government ministers etc. The revolutionary party should be aware of those members who claim to be more loyal to the others in the party than yet they do not wholeheartly believe in the official sanctions mantra. Such members are Nicodemuses. Thank Mliswa saying the logical truth. The revolutionary will benefit from the truthful from you and a few loyal and genuine party members.

Which realistically only leaves options; hyundai, kia, mahindra, toyota, gwm, isuzu(but this is GM owned), tata. Not a bad choice tho. By e way, are Japan and S Korea also imposing travel bans on our corrupt leaders?

Most Zpf idiots ejaculate with rage that Tsvangirai brought 'sanctions' yet Mliswa is proving fellow party idiots that there is nothing like sanctions when zimbabwe THE BIGGEST COUNTRY IN SADC TO LIVE ON IMPORTS has the luxury to buy such large consignment from the US. MUGABE MUST GO PLZZZZ GOD.
