'Next two games to determine CAPS' season'

HARARE - CAPS United assistant coach Saul Chaminuka feels his team’s next two matches will determine whether his side can force their way into contention for a shot at the Castle Premiership title.

Premiership action resumed Tuesday after paving way for the Mbada Diamonds Cup at the weekend and Chaminuka insists the title race remains wide open but stressed their next two matches are crucial in their quest.

Makepekepe, who sit in fifth place with 36 points, will battle it out with Chicken Inn Wednesday for the second time in space of five days before facing Black Mambas at the weekend.

The Green Machine are high on confidence after knocking the Gamecocks out of the Mbada Diamonds Cup quarterfinals at the weekend at Ascot Stadium with a 2-1 win.

“There are no clear title favourites so far. And as of us our chances lie on how we perform in our next two matches,” Chaminuka told Daily the News.

“We need to focus on our game without looking at what is going on at other clubs. We don’t want to put ourselves under unnecessary pressure. We should stick to our game plan.

“We played Chicken Inn in the Mbada Cup and they are very strong side but in tomorrow’s match we need to win at all costs. We are only looking at collecting maximum points.

“Our chances are very bright and we can even go on and lift a double. Every game from now will be very crucial. There is going to be a lot of twist and turns and we need to stay focused on our game.”

CAPS United are still monitoring the trio of lively midfielder Benson Maglasi, the versatile Hardlife Zvirekwi and defender Arnold Chivheya, who picked knocks in their last match against the same opponents.

Meanwhile, Chicken Inn should not be ignored and they have positioned themselves well for the championship fight with some breath-taking performances recently.

The Gamecocks are tied on 36 points with CAPS United but have an inferior goal difference.

It will be interesting to see how the Gamecocks respond to their elimination from the Mbada Cup at the hands of the Green Machine.
