Mapepa tips Bosso for double

BULAWAYO - Highlanders legend Ernest ‘Mapepa’ Sibanda believes Bosso can win both the Castle Premiership title and Mbada Diamonds Cup this season.

Ex-Zimbabwe national team manager Sibanda, under whose chairmanship Highlanders dominated Zimbabwean football at the turn of the millennium, has been impressed by the Bulawayo giants so far this season.

Highlanders will Wednesday host struggling top flight debutants Tripple B at Barbourfields Stadium in a Castle Premiership tie with their tails held high following their emphatic 3-0 cup win over Buffaloes at the weekend.

Tshilamoya will be hoping to reproduce the form they displayed in a mesmerising second half performance against Buffaloes in the Mbada Diamonds Cup quarter-finals which saw Kelvin Kaindu’s men hitting three goals without reply past the army outfit in a 10-minute blitz.

And after the thriller at Mucheke, Sibanda has tipped Bosso as potential league and cup double winners.

“It has been a while since I have seen such a performance from Highlanders and if the boys remain grounded then they will achieve success this year,” said Sibanda, a former Warriors team manager.

“This performance reminded me of the Highlanders of old because the players were fighting for each other and if they can continue in this vein, then they can easily win the double.”

Highlanders beat Tripple B 3-2 in the reverse fixture, which was played at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane since the Beitbridge side’s home ground, Dulibadzimu, is not fit to host high profile matches.

Bosso will however be advised to guard against complacency as Tripple B likely to put up a huge fight since they are in danger of making a quick return to first division football.

Tripple B is placed second from bottom on the Castle Premiership table with a mere 19 points from 23 games and a loss against Highlanders today would severely dent their survival chances.

Highlanders, on the other hand, will be out to collect maximum points so that they maintain their championship challenge.

Bosso are tied in second place with Harare City with both teams sitting on 41 points while log leaders and defending champions Dynamos are on 42 points.

All teams have played 23 times.
