Obert Mpofu's domestic worker charged with murder

BULAWAYO - Minister of Transport Obert Mpofu’s domestic worker has been arrested for allegedly killing his own son during a dispute with his wife.

Prince Sibanda of stand 29 village 4 in Nyamandlovu on Monday appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Witness Mtetwa facing murder charges.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to October 22.

It is the State’s case that on September 30 at about 6pm the accused was having a domestic dispute with his wife Sikhangele Nyoni.

Sibanda allegedly assaulted Nyoni with a hose pipe, the court heard. The accused struck his wife twice on the body and when he attempted to assault her for the third time, he struck his son Promise Junior Sibanda, who was seated on the bed.

The now deceased fell down and Nyoni proceeded to fetch water from the borehole leaving the accused consoling her son, who was now crying and writhing in pain.

The court heard that, moments later, the now deceased started gradually becoming weak and developed difficulties in breathing.

Out of panic, the accused then alerted the neighbours for help resulting in the village head David Moyo bringing his vehicle to ferry the now deceased to hospital but he died before he could be ferried to the hospital.

Sibanda was arrested over the case.
