Ghana's Kingson fit to face Egypt

ACCRA - Richard Kingson has been passed fit for Ghana's 2014 World Cup playoff against Egypt next Tuesday after an injury scare on Monday night.

The experienced goalkeeper was substituted in the 58th minute of Doxa's home fixture at against Apollon.

It was feared he had picked up an injury which could have sidelined him for the Black Stars crucial assignment.

Kingson kept a clean sheet but his replacement conceded two goals.

He was expected in Accra last night to join his international teammates who have opened camping in the Ghanaian capital.

The 35-year-old must compete with Fatau Dauda and Adam Larsen Kwarasey for the Black Stars number one spot.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has swatted reports accusing Kingson of having different ages in their records.

The veteran goalkeeper whose official age is 35 years has been around the football scene for years, with his last Black Stars appearance being in 2011.

The continental football governing body said on Monday that its records on Kingson are consistent with his age declarations.

"Indeed, there has been no such correspondence from Caf in that regard, and any such report lacks credibility and is totally false.

"Our record indicates that the date of birth of Richard Kingson is 13 June 1978, and that reflects in all our official documents."

Meanwhile the Doxa shot-stopper has said age is nothing but a number as Ghana prepare for next Tuesday's Egypt match.

"I am training very hard and what I believe in goalkeeping is training and not the age, if you train hard I know you can still do well," he explained.

"I also believe that because of my training I know I can do better than before. As a Christian I am praying and believe that God will see me through."  - SuperSport
