In the semi-finals, Girls High had dispatched Mbare High 12-5 to sail through to the finals.

Royal College Sports director Herbert Chikuku said the tournament is set to become one of the biggest competitions in the country and plans are underway to make it an annual event.

“We are looking forward to make this tournament an annual event and we are hoping to attract more schools from across the country,” Chikuku told the Daily News yesterday.

“We will continue to support the juniors and we are hoping that our sponsorship will promote junior development in the country.

“This will be the future of professional rugby players so there is need to support them. We are trying to broaden the base for the national selectors for scouting talent.

“The time has come for the country to become a rugby powerhouse on the continental game again.

“We have noticed that there is a lot of talent being left untapped in the country and the idea is to give an opportunity to those schools that have rugby as an extra-curriculum to fully participate in the sport.

Some of the schools that took part in the tournament include Eaglesvale, Roosvelt, Tafara High 2 and Goromonzi.
