Winky D brings Bindura down

HARARE - Wallace “Winky D” Chirumiko’s claim to Zimbabwe dancehall throne is not just idle chatter.

The Kambuzuma-born artiste proved his mettle at the weekend at Tendai Hall in Bindura where he shared the stage with the equally competitive Sniper Storm and Shinso Man.

The three Harare-based artistes rocked the Mashonaland Central provincial capital as part of the on-going Campus Nights gigs being held for university students throughout Zimbabwe by Delta Beverages under their Lion Lager brand.

With Tendai Hall filled to capacity, Winky D seized the opportunity to prove that his position as the popular choice of young music fans remains secure, at least for now.

Encouraged by the noisy crowd singing along throughout his act, the Ninja President put up a scintillating two-hour show full of exuberance.

Winky D has so far proved to be the darling of the country’s university students in all the Delta-sponsored gigs that have taken place in Harare, Gweru, Mutare, Chinhoyi, Bulawayo, Masvingo and Bindura.

The appearance of Tendazvaitwa Chitimbe, better known as Lipsy, for a duet with the Ninja President torched off scenes of wild celebration within the animated crowd.

Though Sniper “Musoja” Storm, could not match the crowd’s support for Winky D, he proved that he is an equally gifted performer.

Clad in his signature military attire, the Love Yemusoja  singer put up an energetic and well-choreographed act.

Before Sniper Storm and Winky D the stage had been warmed up by 24-year old Shinso Man who is ruling the air waves with his hit song Mawaya Waya.

The Campus Night Gigs are a build-up to the much-awaited October 12 Lion Lager Summer Festival set for Harare that will feature two international musicians.

Well-placed sources told the Daily News that the two international stars to perform in the Lion Lager Summer Festival are likely to be chosen from Busy Signal, Tarrus Riley and the Nigerian pair of P Square and D’banj.

P Square performed at last year’s Summer Festival.

Votes from fans will determine the international stars who will play at the Summer Festival.
