Black Boots thrash Bulawayo Chiefs

BULAWAYO - Police outfit Black Boots completed a double over fellow Southern Region Division One championship contenders Bulawayo Chiefs with a crushing 4-0 home victory at Fairbridge on Saturday.

The result saw Black Boots reduce Chiefs’ lead at the summit of the log to a mere two points and cast serious doubts over Rahman Gumbo side’s ability to grab the solitary promotion ticket into the top flight.

Chiefs have 53 points while second-placed Black Boots has 51 with both teams having played 25 matches.

Forgotten striker Thabani Moyo, who has seen duty in the top flight with AmaZulu, Highlanders, Bantu Rovers and How Mine, scored a double for Black Boots who got their opener through the exciting Leroy Ndlovu.

The fourth goal was an own goal by a Chiefs player.

Third-placed Bantu Rovers beat ZPC Hwange 2-1 at Luveve Stadium and now trail Chiefs by eight points.

New West remained in fourth position despite their 1-1 draw against Bulawayo Jumbos at Brady Barracks while Tsholotsho bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 away victory over Zimbabwe Saints.

Bruce Gandi scored the opener for the Lizwe Sweswe-coached side before former Highlanders and Hardbody player Kudzi Machazane secured victory with a beautiful long range effort struck from the centre circle.

Mpumalanga got an easy three points when they were awarded their match against Mkhosana after the Victoria Falls based side failed to clear outstanding registration fees.
