ZBC workers go for months without pay

HARARE – Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) workers who have gone for the past four months without pay are now pinning their hopes on new Media, Information and Broadcasting Services minister Jonathan Moyo to address their plight.

ZBC workers last got salaries in April this year.

Sivukile Simango, the Corporation’s spokesperson,  declined to comment on the matter.

Morale is said to have hit rock bottom at the station.

“It is been four months since we were last paid, and it seems like this month we might not get any of our monies,” said one of the ZBC workers who spoke on condition of anonymity fearing victimisation.

“Moyo (Jonathan) summoned our bosses on Thursday last week ,and read a riot act to them. He ordered them to come up with a new structure which scraps the bloated management.  The new structure will render most of the managers useless and this is good for us as the workers committee because the management gobbles more than half of the salary bill.”

The State broadcaster has been struggling to pay its workers since last year, and has been relying on overdrafts to finance its soaring wage bill driven mostly by the excessive and unsustainable perks for top management.

“We hope that heads will soon roll because we are tired of suffering at the hands of the management which earns unrealistic salaries,” another ZBC worker said.

The disgruntled workers wrote to President Robert Mugabe in May appealing to him to address their plight.

In a letter dated May 30, 2013, the employees said they were failing to buy food, pay rentals and school fees for their children because they were not receiving their salaries from the State broadcaster.

The employees said management was arrogant whenever asked about the salaries and better working conditions.

GOOD ADVICE: Do something for yourself, for your beloved family. Don't waste your time talking politics while others are enjoying their lives with money without talking politics. See how this Zimbabwean poor woman became a millionaire just by buying and selling accident cars. Very interesting. Go to (USED.CO) not dot com, to see the methods and companies she was using to do that (USED.CO) not dot com, it is a very simple idea but a very powerful One, Wake up Africans

Interesting, Mr Webster Shamu, you closed DWT for struggling to pay workers. You were the man in charge at ZBC, any comment. All you will do was to get paid by DWT until there was nothing to pay you. Shame on you!!! The meeting you held in Mnangagwa's office trying to arm twist the late master of high court. Having directors arrested for your greed. Lets see these guys change the country. I bet my last cent!!!!

sorry kwekweans, we voted a zanu pf mayor not because we dont want our dear President M.R.Tsvangirai but we only wanted to save our jobs from chombo axe. We would like to assure kwekwe residents that MDC-T party is in control of the council as we have the majority.

Well if anybody is in dire need of instant rehabilitation and gloss it is this minister. He has been presented with a golden opportunity on the plate to fix the rot with ZBC management, if anybody can call it this. Given his penchant for high drama lets take ringside seats for this one. Of course the so called management at ZBC should really really be ashamed of themselves and Moyo should be a welcome addition to their issues as he will allow them to save face by solving the problem for them.

ZBC should also reduce their fees, they are just too much for nothing. To the workers, find something better do so you can feed your families. mukaita basa rekutevedzana ne gala hameno zvenyu.
