Zvishavane ready for Sup8r final

HARARE - Shabanie Mine secretary general Pithias Shoko says hosting the BancABC Sup8r final in Zvishavane is a befitting tribute to two teams whose rivalry is becoming one of the biggest derbies in domestic football.

The asbestos miners clash with their bitter rivals FC Platinum at Mandava Stadium next Saturday in the final of the competition with the winner guaranteed  a cheque of $120 000 in prize money.

It will be a battle which neither side is prepared to lose.

“We are really looking forward to this match; the whole of Zvishavane is looking forward,” Shoko told the Daily News.

“It was a noble idea for the league and the sponsors to choose Zvishavane to host this final. After all the two teams competing are from this mining town.

“In my opinion the Zvishavane derby is slowly becoming the biggest derby in Zimbabwe. There used to be Highlanders versus Zimbabwe Saints, but that is no more.

“Dynamos and CAPS United is still up there but the FC Platinum and Shabanie derby is slowly becoming the most anticipated derby in the league.”

Shoko added that the Midlands province’s hospitality sector was ready to host football loving fans next weekend.

“The hospitality will be up there. I’m told already all lodgings are fully booked. We are campaigning for no violence. It’s unfortunate there will be only one winner.”

The Shabanie official said the two clubs have a healthy rivalry.

“We are not enemies with FC Platinum. We have a good relationship. Don’t forget last season they loaned us Nelson Maziwisa who went to win the golden boot award.

“We still have some other players in our ranks from FC Platinum.

Maybe this bad blood that people talk of exists between supporters. But as far as the players are concerned we have a good relationship.”
